					Shop this Chinese Antique Brush Washer. In the manner of the Chinese literati, these scholars valued the so-called four treasures of the scholar’s studio, that of brush, ink, that of the inkstone, and paper. These sacred objects were the prerequisites for both painting and calligraphy. In addition to these instruments, a painting table, a desk, chairs, and bookcases also comprised the Chinese scholar’s studio of; these furnishings all were crafted invaluable woods such as Zitan, Hongmu, and huanghuali.  
 
Brush washers fit into this model of the Scholars studio and scholar objects as a small device used to clear the brushes in the practice of calligraphy as a container designed to hold a small amount of water. Brush washers may be made of bronze, jade, other types of hard stone such as amethyst, or various ceramics, porcelain, and pottery forms.
 
This charming little biscuit glaze brush washer dates to the 19th century circa the Tongzhi era, around the 1860s-1870s. Created in biscuit glaze porcelain, this chestnut decorated bowl is a wonderful and charming addition to various top table decorations and a tabletop accent.
