This fireside art print for sale by 19th-century American artist Stephen G McCutcheon, c. 1846 – 1884) is entitled “My Ain Fireside” and composed during a time the artist has spent in London England. The etching from a portfolio of “Modern Etchings”, this original etching was crafted with a sepia plate tone. This work was part of a series was commissioned by the New York publisher, White Stokes & Allen, in 1884. The intaglio print scene depicts a lady in Victorian attire using a bellows to keep the fire burning. The image and artist were influenced by James Abbott McNeill Whistler’s works and the elements of realism and tonalism that had emerged in the 1880s.

A member of the New York Etching Club, whose members included prominent American artists Stephen Parrish, Thomas Moran, Samuel Colman, William Merritt Chase, Frederick Stuart Church, Joseph Pennell, and Thomas Waterman Wood. McCutcheon was nominated for membership in 1881. This work was recorded to have been shown at the club on the date 1884. It is a well-articulated work and a charming and soft wall art print for anyone looking for Victorian era art and prints from the 19th century.
