This gelatin silver print photograph part of a series of photographs taken by FSA photographer Sheldon Dick of the Flint Michigan autoworkers strike, referred to as the Flint sit-down strike dating from Dec 30, 1936 – Feb 11, 1937. The original negative is cataloged in the Library of Congress as LLC-USF34- 040019-D [P&P] LOT 1048 (corresponding photographic print). The original negative part of the Farm Security Administration’s collection – Office of War Information Photograph Collection (Library of Congress). Library of Congress Prints and Photographs Division Washington, DC 20540.
The original negative dates to January/February of 1937 and is formally entitled “Striker and his fiancee (sit-down strike romance) in the Women’s Auxiliary room in Pengally Hall. Flint, Michigan”. This gelatin silver photograph dates to the 1960s. The reverse of the sheet retains the original “Reproduced from the Library of Congress” hand stamp, inventory numbers, a partial date, title, and artist name, in an unknown hand.
