Part of a sketchbook acquired in the New England area, the primitive drawing of an animal form. The term outsider derived from the term “art brut,” referring to art outside of the typical art market, and was first coined by art critic Roger Cardinal in 1972.
Like art brut, outsider art refers to art that implicates that the artist is self-taught or applies a naive approach to their creations.
