Shop this vintage penguin sculpture made by Al Wilson in cut steel and dated 1967. Albert Leon Wilson was an American metal sculptor. Active from the 1940s through the 1990s, Wilson created over 200 sculptures that can be found in cities across the United States. His elaborate welded steel sculptures are characterized by their intricate system of interlocking geometric forms. Influenced by Constructivism and Cubism as well as his characteristic smaller Animal sculptures, Wilson’s work often incorporates elements of chance into their final composition. Throughout his career, he regularly experimented with new techniques and materials, pushed the boundaries of traditional sculpture, and became one of the most significant American artists of the 20th century.
