Shop this silhouette portrait painting dating to the mid 19th century, circa 1860. It is attributed to America and the Northeast; the silhouette details a half profile of a lady in a bonnet. The black paint silhouette outline on toned brown paper with soft, detailed accents of curls and strands that detail the subject’s hire and attire. The period 19th-century black painted frame, with gold, toned oval brass ring and a high relief decorated mount for the mounting, center.

The frame shows repair with crazing and general wear to the frame. The oval painting on paper with toning to the paper. The reverse of the frame with mounting residue and wear consistent with the age of the object. The frame is irregular in shape. The gilt decorated brass oval frame mounting ring displays oxidation and tarnish—the oval glass insert with abrasions to the glass surface.
