American artist Eliot Candee Clark (1883 – 1980) was the son of landscape painter Walter Clark, known for his landscape paintings in the American Impressionist school. This painting appears to be a winter lake scene study. The frozen over water with drifts of snow and the bare trees shown at the front of the painting edge.
Clark’s work is held in numerous museums, including the Smithsonian American Art Museum, signed in the lower right-hand corner, this painting. This original watercolor painting would be a great addition to any 20th-century interior and collector of American Impressionist paintings or works by Clark.
