This ceramic vase was hand-made by potter and School for American Craftsmen faculty member Hobert Cowles who predominately worked in the medium of clay. Cowles became a faculty member for the school in 1951 and continued to teach at the department that has also included other faculty members such as Albert Paley and Wendell Castle.
Hand potted and painted in an Impressionist style, in the style of Pablo Picasso Madoura Ceramics, this vase is decorated with abstract lashes of off-white and brown still-life flowers in vases in reverse. The artist, “Hobart sign the underside of the vase.” A collector acquired this art pottery vessel through an estate in the New York City area.
