Shop this Genuine original blue transferware antique plate for sale. This antique plate is accentuated by the grand detail of the plates historical theme as inscribed on the lower center portion “Entrance of the Eric Canal into the Hudson at Albany.” Detailing the history of the Hudson River and the Hudson rivers use as a route of trade and commerce.
The antique pottery plate depicts trade ships on the river with cargo, the newly emerging towns and cities of western and central New York, and fishermen on the banks of the river.
This blue transferware antique dinner plate is an excellent example of antique blue ceramic transferware. While some transferware is manufactured by Wedgwood, Spode, or Johnson Brothers, or in the classic blue and white transferware patterns of Willow ware, flo blue, this example of Staffordshire historical blue is exceedingly rare and desirable to antique collectors. With no makers stamp on the reverse of this plate as may be expected in some transferware examples, this plate may be attributed to Enoch Wood and Sons, Burslem, and dated to the second quarter of the 19th century.
