Product Information
The Civil War was one of the most momentous and significant conflicts in American history. Over the course of four years, 620,000 men lost their lives in battle, and the nation was left deeply divided. The war also had a profound impact on the development of photography. In the early 1860s, the new art form was still in its infancy, and many of the most famous images from the conflict were captured using a photographic process known as Ambrotype. This antique photograph depicts a Union Army soldier in full uniform, complete with a rifle and bayonet. The soldier’s expression is solemn and serious, conveying the gravity of the situation. The image captures both the tragedy and the heroic spirit of the Civil War, making it a treasured reminder of one of the darkest periods in American history. The photograph includes a partial gutta-percha case.
Dimensions
The image measures 3.25 x 2.75 inches, not including the case.
Condition
The gutta-percha case is missing the top cover. The ambrotype image has minor crackling and abrasions to the image.
