Product Information
This praying mantis sculpture from Japan’s Meiji era is available for purchase. On the underside of the sculpture, the artist has signed his name and signature. The use of insect models of sea life, such as crabs or lobsters and small mammals and rodents, was quite common during the Meiji era in the form of similar models made of copper and bronze. This object from the nineteenth century is unique in that it has movable limbs attached to joint hinges. The patinated metal is most likely a finely patinated hammered bronze or copper, but it could also be something else. The metal was not tested for its composition.
Dimensions
5 inches in length.
