Add a touch of genuine vintage decor to any interior and shop this abstract sculpture for sale by A.L. Wilson. This work created and handcrafted by A.L. Wilson, short for Albert Leon Wilson, worked in the method Brutalist design that originated in the 1950s from Brutalist architecture, which focused on monolithic, rigid, blocky design. Brutalism moved into the arts and crafts of fine art, jewelry design, and visual art and sculpture from its roots in architecture. This is why this work has a choppy or block-like quality to it. Albert Leon Wilson worked in variations of abstract form and expressionist forms of figural design but also favored the theme of animals and birds in his sculptures, prints, and paintings.
The bird profile is cut into the iron, seen at the top, and the center depicts the eagle or hawk claw. The frame appears to be crafted and cut from an iron or steel beam, as the corner edges protrude out in each direction. This abstract sculpture’s vertical nature would work well as a table accent or even a tall shelf or cabinet accent for a display case or as a stand-alone home sculpture that can fill a hard-to-decorate space. As the sculpture’s mainframe is that of an iron steel beam, the color of the statue has a rich deep multi-toned grey patina from the forging of the steel.
The dominant bird theme of this sculpture would be a great addition to any collector of birds, someone that collects the work of A.L. Wilson, or someone looking for genuine vintage sculpture. We love the free form lines and contradicting the rigid dynamic of this abstract sculpture. The Brutalist form of the steel beam works well with the sweeping cuts that transition this visual artwork from a modernist or brutalist block of steel into the bird of prey, hawk, or eagle bird theme.
The vintage steel sculpture is fastened onto a carved wooden dark cherry wood-toned base that provides additional support and interior decor placement stability. This sculpture is has a steel-plated stamp and two dates, signed A.L. Wilson, and dated 1973 and 1968, and certainly qualifies as a genuine vintage item.
It is an excellent addition as a small sculpture for anyone looking to add a flare of genuine vintage sculpture in a modernist abstract form with a mighty bird of prey theme.
